After School Activities
We have a range of after school activities that are on offer to children at Mansel. All of the activities we offer support children to become more resilient, inclusive and aspirational in line with our school values.
After school activities change on a termly basis and children are given the opportunity to sign up to the clubs that they would like to be part of.
For more details on how to sign up to an after school club, contact your class teacher or the school office
Attendance
We place great importance on good attendance and punctuality here at Mansel Primary as we know that a child’s attendance has a direct impact on their learning. Those children who are regularly absent from school and regularly late do not achieve their potential and do fall behind in class, therefore we celebrate good attendance in a wide variety of ways and offer class and individual prizes for good attendance at school.
- Your child should attend school every day and on time.
You should contact the school on each and every day of an absence. - You should make every effort to get your child to school even if they are feeling unwell. The school will always contact you if the child’s health deteriorates.
- Make sure the school have the correct contact details especially if there is an emergency.
- Don’t be offended if the school contact you. It is for the safety and welfare of your child.
- If you do have issues that prevent your child from attending, discuss these issues as soon as possible with the school. Do not leave it. Contact the school and ask for an appointment to talk about the problems.
- If your child has any health issues please make sure the school are aware and if appropriate make arrangements to supply the school with for example, asthma pumps and Epipen’s etc.
- You should not take your child out of school for a holiday during term time. If you feel you need to take leave during term time you must put your request to the Head teacher in writing. Each request is considered on an individual basis. If the leave you requested is refused and you go ahead with the holiday the school may request a fine is issued by way of a Penalty Notice.
- There is no doubt that attendance and achievement go hand in hand. Your child’s attendance is their future.Should your child’s unauthorised absence remain high, after all possible intervention, legal proceedings will be considered.
The Education Act 1996 states:
“If any child of compulsory school age, who is a registered pupil at a school, fails to attend regularly, the parents of the child shall be guilty of an offence.”

Home Learning
We expect all children within school to continue their learning at home where necessary. All children are given a reading book and should be practicing their reading skills each night. Rewards and recognition are given to those children who take part in daily reading at home.
On a termly basis children are sent home with a home learning grid. This is a grid with multiple options on for the children to choose a challenge from. Children should aim to complete a challenge each week. The challenges are designed to support children in revisiting and embedding the learning that has been introduced within their class.
Home learning grids can be accessed from Class Dojo, from your child’s class teacher or from the school office.
We follow the National Curriculum and teach a broad and balanced range of subjects including PE, Music, History, Geography, Design Technology, Art, PSHE, Science, Computing and RE. We have a termly driving subject and aim to provide cross curricular learning linked to a high quality text where possible. We follow the Read, Write Inc. programme to plan and deliver high quality daily phonics lessons.

Online Safety
At Mansel we promote the use of technology and understand the role it plays in education, business and social interaction. There are many advantages to using technology, however we also recognise that the digital world presents numerous online risks. It is our responsibility to educate children and families about the risks, how to behave responsibly online and where to go for support and guidance.
How we teach online safety
We use the Sheffield Online Safety Scheme which forms part of our PSHE curriculum in school. These sessions are delivered throughout the year and cover a wide range of online safety topics.

Remote Education
At Mansel Primary we are committed to providing a high quality education to all our children within school.
However there may be occasions where we need to significantly adapt the way we deliver our curriculum as well as making adaptations to the practicalities of school in order to keep children, families and staff safe.
The documentation below details the adaptations we may take and our intentions in moving forward as a school ensuring that our children are provided with the best possible opportunities to support them in making exceptional progress.
School Meals
All of our school meals are cooked freshly on site. Children have a choice of four meal options including two hot main meals, jacket potato with filling and a sandwich option. All meals are served with seasonal vegetables or salad from the self service salad bar. Fresh fruit is available every day and drinking water is available for all children too.
