Y6 Goldcrests
Welcome to Y6 Goldcrests!
Our classroom can be found at the end of the top corridor. We are always encouraged to do our best, be kind to each other and to challenge ourselves. We are rewarded with house-points for our hard work and following our school rules. In addition, there are extra prizes and rewards for those of us who have made a special effort with our presentation.
Our environment encourages Goldcrests to work collaboratively, use resources independently to develop new learning, as well as to consolidate familiar aspects. Goldcrests is the place for inquisitive, enquiring and resilient children who enjoy a challenge, as well as children who are keen to help and support others.
Although our sights are set firmly on the end of the year, we keep an emphasis on the wider curriculum to give us breadth and depth in our learning. In Year 6, each topic has a different theme: ‘All About Me’, ‘Slavery in History’ and ‘North America’. Our Literacy work is often based around a book. The first term, our work will be based on ‘There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom’ by Louis Sachar. After Autumn half term, our Literacy work is based around Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’. In the Spring term, we will be studying ‘Holes’ (another book by Louis Sachar) and in the Summer term, we will be reading ‘Wonder’ by R. J. Palacio.
PE days: Monday and Thursday
For home learning, we have sent out a learning grid with a range of challenges for your child to choose from and complete. In addition, we would expect them to read a minimum of 3 times per week, learn their weekly spellings (using strategies learnt in class) and to practise their times tables (using Times Tables Rock Stars if you have access to the internet).
