Year 6 Learning Journal
A big welcome to Year 6 from Mrs Hobman and Miss Wilkinson. We really hope that your child will enjoy learning with us this year. Although we will do lots of work to fully prepare them for their SATs in May, there will be plenty of fun as well!
Below is an overview of the themes we will be learning about this year.
- Autumn Term: Dracula and the Victorians
- Spring Term: North America and the Yukon Gold Rush
- Summer Term: What's in the News?
All pupils in school have been given a new reading record to evidence their reading habits across the year. Children are encouraged to read every night and bring their reading records to school each day. Although we know that many children are reading independently by Year 6, we would encourage you to ask them questions on what they have read and make a note of when you have done this in their reading record. This will support your child when answering reading comprehension questions in the Y6 SATs papers.
Spelling lists will be send home every Monday. These will contain either words that fit a particular spelling rule or specific words that your child needs to learn. Please help your child to learn as many of the words as they can. On Friday, they will be tested on SOME of the words. If you want any help with strategies to support your child, please ask.
Our PE days are Tuesday's and Thursdays– please make sure your child has their correct PE kit in school on these days.
Don’t forget that as part of our study of Dracula, we will be visiting Whitby on Wednesday 20th September. Letters went out before the Summer holidays however if you need a duplicate letter, please contact the Office.
We look forward to being able to share some examples of our learning with you soon. If you would like regular updates on what is happening in Year 6, you can follow Miss Wilkinson and Mrs Hobman on Twitter.
